  • Château Meyney

    Saint-Estèphe

Château Meyney’s vineyard is planted of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot, on a perfectly-drained gravel soil that provides ideal conditions for grapes ripening. This unusually high share of Petit Verdot explains a particular trait of the wines, which regularly show notes of leather and musk after a period of time. The wine is full-bodied, well-rounded and structured. After ageing, the wine displays the remarkable charm of the best Saint-Estèphe: complexity, balance and harmony.

Meyney 2012 presents a deep colour with hints of violet. The nose develops notes of blackcurrant and other small black fruit, with a hint of slightly peppery spiciness combined with voluptuous, well-integrated woody notes. The palate reveals a gentle, harmonious wine that promises to age well. Rather unusually for Meyney, due to weather conditions that particularly favoured the Merlot, the proportion of Merlot in the blend for the Grand Vin is higher than that of Cabernet Sauvignon.

2011 is a highly technical vintage, which required precision and discipline. We think that we have overcome this difficulty. The climate during the first week of September could have tempted us to speed up harvest in order to guarantee a satisfactory crop. Instead, we intensified our efforts and acquired extremely efficient selection equipment, thus obtaining perfectly ripe grapes which reflect our ambitious quality standards.
The first tastings show that our strategy paid off! Meyney 2011 shows perfect balance, quality tannins, good density and a broad aromatic spectrum.

  • Prieur de Meyney

Second wine of Château Meyney, Saint-Estèphe

Prieur de Meyney is the second wine from Château Meyney, known in the 17th century as Prieuré des Couleys. Made with the same care as the first wine and using a similar blend, it comes from the younger vines on the estate. Since its creation with the 1979 vintage, the team has had time to refine this wine that receives the same care at every stage than the “Grand Vin”: a structured wine with intense aromas on the nose, and deep fruit flavours on the palate that show the ripeness of the grapes. It is an elegant and supple Saint-Estèphe, more forward than its big brother, yet built to pass the test of time.
